Why should I? Why does being kind matter in this harsh world? Why be kind to those who hurt me or are only out for themselves?
You too may be asking yourself these questions.
The answer is starkly simple.
Because God is kind.
And He wants us to reflect His kindness in how we treat those He loves.
Show me unfailing kindness like the Lord’s kindness as long as I live. I Samuel 20:14 (NIV)
Kindness is not just a feeling.
Kindness is the outward expression of the inward choice that everyone you encounter matters.
Because you hold to the truth that God created them, and loves them all, you choose to express kindness to all.
Kindness is friendly love in action, and doesn’t cost you a thing apart from effort.
Kindness matters because God showed us through His death on the cross just how kind He is.
He showers us with grace and mercy, even though we don’t deserve it.
How can we be grateful for that kindness, and treat one another unkindly?
I’m not talking about one moment on a bad day, but the general practice of being unkind.
His kindness leads us back to Him, and our kindness should point that way to those we are being kind to.
Because He is kind, we can be kind.
Because we know His kindness first hand, and how much it mattered to us.
Our kindness can have ripple effects into eternity.
Invite Holy Spirit to show you how you can be kind today.
Lord, I repent I have not always been kind with my thoughts, words and actions. Help me reflect Your kindness in action today, wherever I go, to whomever You would have me meet.
Great reminder! 🙂 Also reminded of Proverbs 3:3 translated in the NASB as “kindness.” God bless you!
