Peace and I used to be at odds.

I used to be very uptight & constantly on guard to being hurt. There wasn’t room for anything but my woundedness and defensiveness.

Getting married and having children brought much joy and likewise changes into my life, but didn’t contribute much towards finding peace, nor did work.

Having relatives with mental illness and major health concerns also added another whole weight of strain onto my shoulders, and I began to have physical reactions to all I was carrying.

Then a family member committed suicide, and God met me in that tragedy with a peace knowing He was with us, and I started to grasp the concept of peace being found in Him.

A few months later, another family member attempted suicide in a desperate attempt to stop their pain.

I was shaken to the core, as I was much closer to this person and couldn’t imagine my grief had they succeeded.

God showed up, and a peace beyond all understanding entered me as He held me close.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:12

And that’s when I realized…. Peace is a person.

God IS peace.

Being in His Presence soothes the fierceness of my temper and my torrent of tears. He helps calm my anxiety and stops me rocking in the worry chair.

Because He himself is peace? When He shows up, peace enters.

Peace is a must have portion of the fruit of the Spirit, for it adds a layer of calm to any situation as it floods in alongside His love and joy.
