fruit of the Spirit unpacked – kindness

One of the speakers who has impacted me the most is Graham Cooke. I had the privilege of hearing his testimony soon after I got married, and it profoundly changed how I view God.

Graham did not have an ideal upbringing. When He met God, He was blown away not only His love, but the kindness he found in Him.

I was struck by the one sentence he spoke which I have never forgotten, and God has proved over and over to be true in my life as well:

God is the kindest person I know. – Graham Cooke

Last week, as I was studying about God’s kindness, I came across another quote by Graham Cooke, where He unpacks what kindness is in light of it being a characteristic of Him.

“Kindness opened up a while new territory into understanding who God is: how He things, how He perceived, how He likes to talk, how He likes to do things. God loves to root everything He is in love, grace, and kindness so that we can learn the consistency of His affection toward us.” – Graham Cooke

Kindness is not just an expression, but is an integral part of who He is, as He continues to reveal.

“I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.” Jeremiah 9:24

He shows us just how kind He is through all the ways He expresses it to us.

“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

“Yet He has not left Himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons, He provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” Acts 14:17

Have you noticed as well how each of the fruit of the Spirit seem to be anchored in love?

Since the heart is the center of our being and we are made in His image, it makes sense that His love would be the foundational motivation behind all He does and shows those He loves.

And so we are to demonstrate kindness to those He loves as well…each other.

May He help us to express kindness to all we meet and receive His kindness towards us with gratitude.

Thank you for this post. What a beautiful reminder of God love and through His love we can bear that same fruit towards all we do.
