Today was hard. I am not a fan of roller coasters or thunderstorms, and I felt off kilter from the moment I woke up this rainy morning.

I turned to the Word, and God began to remind me of His promises.

The Lord is my solid rock, my fortress, my rescuer. My God is my rock – I take refuge in Him – He’s my shield, my salvation’s strength, my place of safety. Psalm 18:2 CEV

God, the one and only— I’ll wait as long as He says. Everything I hope for comes from Him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, An impregnable castle: I’m set for life. Psalm 62:6-8 MSG

And in these two verses, He reassures me He is my foundation. He keeps my on level keel. He makes space for me to breathe, even when I feel like I am in the eye of the hurricane. He is my protector and my very strength when I need it most.

Many of those closest to me are having a hard time too: divorce, illness, job loss, depression, money is tight, kids leaving the nest…

Some are coping well despite horrible circumstances, some are struggling with the fact they are not able to take control over what is happening.

Yet God knows.

He cares.

He longs to embrace you, me/

Wipe the tears from our eyes.

Fill us with His peace and love.

Carry our burdens for us.

Strengthen us exactly where we are weakest.

Protect us each and every time we have need of Him.

Run to Him, friend.  Don’t stay hidden away, under the cover of fear. Let your emotions out as you speak them into His waiting ear.  He already knows what is swirling inside, and longs to reassure us of His Presence, His love, and His ability to meet our needs.

I am heading to bed tonight picturing myself slumbering away in my bedroom in His fortress of peace and solitude. Safe and sound, with God singing over me as I rest in His Presence.
