where to turn when you are overwhelmed

Some mornings, I have a really hard time getting up and out of bed. Not because I didn’t have enough time to sleep, but due to the fact my mind wouldn’t stop thinking about something.

For me, fears tend to take root when I become OVERWHELMED.
When that one thing is weighing so heavily upon you it becomes hard to function, or when the thought of adding one more thing to your shoulders takes your breath away? You are overwhelmed.
Almost every time I become fearful, it is due to the fact I did not take what was causing me to feel overwhelmed right to God.
One of my favorite parts of the bible is the Psalms. Real people sharing real problems seeking real answers from the One God who really cares for every aspect of their lives.
I often read through the Psalms to remind me that all these past living and breathing people written about there had problems like mine, and sought God for relief to all their problems, including feeling overwhelmed and fearful.
A favorite Psalm, just reading Psalm 61 helps me put things into perspective, calms my heart, and encourages me to bring what is bothering me to God in prayer.

My prayer for you too is to find relief in His Presence, as you move from overwhelmed to under His covering.

God, listen to me shout, bend an ear to my prayer. When I’m far from anywhere, down to my last gasp, I call out, “Guide me up High Rock Mountain!” You’ve always given me breathing room, a place to get away from it all, a lifetime pass to Your safe-house, an open invitation as Your guest. You’ve always taken me seriously, God, made me welcome among those who know and love You. – Psalm 61:1-5 MSG
