“In Christianity, CHRIST (Greek: Χριστός, Christós, meaning “the anointed one”) is a title for the saviour and redeemer who would bring salvation to the whole House of Israel. Christians believe Jesus is the Israelite Messiah foretold in both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Christ, used by Christians as both a name and a title, is synonymous with Jesus.”[5][6][7] (Wikipedia)
One of the richest words steeped in tradition and legacy used in the hymn “O Come All Ye Faithful,” CHRIST is our reminder of Who we are coming to celebrate and adore this Christmas.
- The Anointed One.
- Savior of the world.
- Redeemer
- Salvation bringer.
- Messiah.
But more than all those titles, Christ is also His Name.
For our God came personally to earth for each of us, and rocked history as we now know it! Because this Name is also invoking all the power He holds due to it also being His title, may we all sing it and speak it with the reverence He is due, and the love we hold for Him!
Today, I share one of my favorite verses and worship songs which highlight the titleness of Jesus, and which I feel would blend into a contemporary Christmas worship set.
Word: “Let this mind be in you which was also in CHRIST Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant, and coming in the likeness of men.” Philippians 2:5-7
Worship: “Tremble” by Amanda Cook, Bethel Music
“Your name is a light that the shadows can’t deny, Your name cannot be overcome. Your name is alive forever lifted high, Your name cannot be overcome!”
