When the hard news keeps coming, I often find it difficult to catch my breath from the weight of my emotions.
Maybe you too can relate.
Two people I care a great deal for are in hospital, three others struggling with stress and depression, yet another crying out to God for an answer after a decade battling a health concern.
Add overdue bills, sick kids, car problems, relationship problems, looking for work, bad weather? It can be hard to willingly jump out of bed to face the day.
Where can we turn?
“If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, He’ll help you catch your breath. Disciples so often get into trouble; still, God is there every time.” Psalm 34:18-19 MSG
Friend, the Bible doesn’t tell us God is far away from us. It tells us He is right with us in our pain, grief and troubles.
Something I have reminded myself to do when faced with a stressor is to take in a deep breath.
- Breathe out the negative, breathe Him in.
- Breathe out what is weighing upon you, breathe in His peace.
- Breathe out your pain, breathe in His comforting Presence.
Bringing everything to Him in prayer helps elleviate my sense of being alone, and reassure me that all things which matter to me matter to Him, because I matter so much to Him.
Let’s catch our breath again today, with His help.
