burn the ships, friend

Yesterday was a wonderful day celebrating the resurrection. Jesus rising from the dead, bringing new life to all who believe in Him.

Yesterday was also a day of old emotions rising within me, starting an inner battle and confirming for me that  I needed to take some time to process the thoughts carefully, pray about them, as I wait for God’s clarity and freedom.

And then it occurred to me. Maybe I am not the only one who had a hard day this Easter weekend. Just maybe, one or two of you might have as well.

Because spending time in close quarters with family members can push our buttons at times, can’t it, friend? Or old memories spring back into the forefront of our minds in their attempt to suck us back into one of the sinkholes the enemy wants us to revisit.

This week, I am taking part in a spiritual freedom weekend as a part of the support team. So it’s no coincidence the enemy would want to distract me with a red herring, versus focus on the point of this upcoming retreat – increased freedom for His children.

I recently discovered a CD that I had previously purchased by for King and Country, and as I listened to the first song on it, the hair rose on the back of my neck and I got a sense of the tingles as I started to cry and pray.

God met me in this song, and pointed out this truth.

The next time Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future. (Matthew 25:41)

The enemy knows he loses the battle to Jesus, but that isn’t stopping him from attacking us in small skirmishes designed to have us stuck in the past, instead of walking out the freedom we have in Jesus.

Take a few moments today, friend, and invite God to meet you as you seek Him.  Consider the truth in the song below, and ask God what part of your past, what ship, do you need to give over to Him and let be burned in the fire of His power & presence?

Get ready to step into the new day God has waiting for you through His freedom!
