An “agape” kind of love

I began thinking about love as a teen when I first heard the song, “A Groovy Kind of Love” by Phil Collins.

“When I’m feeling blue, all I have to do
Is take a look at you, then I’m not so blue.”

This month, I am feeling that I once again need to take a closer look at love. What it means, what God says about it, and what all that means for both you and I.

AGAPE.

From the Greek, AGAPE is defined as the love of God for humanity, and when returned, the love humanity has for God.

Agape love is meant for everybody, whether they know God or not. It is meant to be a love offered regardless of how we like one another, because it’s a choosing love. God chooses to love each of us, whether or not we ever love Him back.

And agape love? This is the kind of love we are to have for everyone we encounter, because of God’s great love for them!

“Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with Him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of Himself to us. Love like that.”

Ephesians 5:2 MSG
