At the core of each person is a longing for deep connection. A one on one passionate desire and longing for another kind of love.
The kind of love which draws hearts together beyond agape (chosen) storge (family) and philos (friendship) loves.
EROS is defined as ‘a sexual love or desire.’
This is the kind of love which burns, yearns and longs for the one it loves when they are apart as much as when they are together.
It may seem a little strange to you and I, but God loves us with this kind of passionate depth. An all in, forever ours Eros kind of love.
One of the passages of the Bible which makes people uncomfortable is Song of Songs, where we see through the writings of Solomon a picture of Eros love in full bloom. Which also gives us a glimpse of His desire for each of us.
“Kiss me—full on the mouth!
Yes! For your love is better than wine, headier than your aromatic oils. The syllables of your name murmur like a meadow brook. No wonder everyone loves to say your name! Take me away with you! Let’s run off together! An elopement with my King-Lover! We’ll celebrate, we’ll sing, we’ll make great music. Yes! For your love is better than vintage wine.” (Song of Songs 1:2-4 MSG)
“True Love” by David Ruiz was one of the first songs to capture this passion in a way that portrays its depth without being ‘creepy’ sexually (in my opinion.) It’s an oldie but a goldie!
