There are many characteristics I am meant to avoid as a child of the King…
Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk.
Ephesians 4:31 MSG
…for expressing harm to others causes a void of the positive God intended within me.
Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32 MSG
So how can I avoid that which leaves a void within me?
By depending upon God for what I need.
Yesterday, I was in an important conversation with a coworker, and got abruptly interrupted to go do something else by one of my supervisors.
I got really pissed off. In the split second between that burn of anger and the three steps help out at to the front desk, I asked God to take that anger and help me avoid a bigger blow up. He did.
By offering that which would leave a void for the enemy to fill up to the One who by His design is meant to indwell and fill us, I avoided a nasty potential pitfall. I did not speak my anger at any one, and spoke forgiveness over the situation with His help.
What pitfall do you need His help to avoid? Where is there a dangerous void within you that you need to give to God?
The only way to avoid a void is to fill it, friend, as we turn to Him first.
