The question I hear the most when chatting about lies is how to fight them.
Lysa Terkeurst nails the best response I have for this question.
“We can either sit in the dark and replay the awful things we think about ourselves or the things we think others are thinking, or we can turn the light on and read God’s Word, His truth. LIES FLEE IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD’S TRUTH.”
Since we know Satan is the father of lies, and lies cause fear, may we sit at His feet and allow His truth and love to push out the lies within, as God embraces us in His Presence.
Let’s stop punishing ourselves for what God wants to forgive, heal and restore. Punishing ourselves only give internal ground over to the enemy to play in, instead of giving that space over to Holy Spirit to nourish us in.
God, increase in us a love for Your Word. That Your truth would wash over us and deep within us, that fear would be pushed out so that Your Presence and love have ample room to roam within me. Where I have agreed with a lie, prompt me to break off my agreement and send the lie back to the pit where it came from. Fill that spot with Your truth, that I might be not only freed and restored, but protected from further attack in this area.
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18a ESV)
“There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear.” (1 John 4:18a MSG)
“Love never brings fear, for fear is always related to punishment. But love’s perfection drives the fear of punishment far from our hearts.” (1 John 4:18a TPT)
