As I once again take a look at Matthew 6:24-32, I am drawn to the next verse – which for me is the major take away of this passage.

“Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”
(Matthew 6:33 MSG)

⌚STEEP

Anyone who makes coffee or tea knows that you need to give time for the water & the coffee grounds/loose leaf tea to infuse one another, so that the flavour & fragrance are fully released. Only then is the beverage ready to be sipped and savored.

And that process of steeping takes time.

Just like making the perfect cuppa, in order for us to develop the faith and trust that God is our provider – we need to daily seek Him in His Word and water the seeds of faith they contain for that trust to grow.

Our worry or fussing will naturally give way as we soak in His Promises, and give them the time to infuse within our hearts and minds. Because worry doesn’t get me anywhere but stuck in my own head, and get my emotions all wound up in a knot of stress and what ifs.

When we let go of our concern for getting, and receive the gift of His care for us, we begin to accept Him as Provider.

For the One who loves us so will take care of the object of that affection.

And the longer we speak that over ourselves and claim it as the Truth that it is, the more it will steep and permeate us within. Deeping our trust, confirming our faith. So we can see all the ways He is meeting our needs and providing for us, and accept the peace which comes with that insight.

Because the reality is that God is not only our initiator as Creator, but the One who draw us to Him, and provides all the resources we need to grow. Including the Words which remind me of all I need and You provide, such as this verse.

Don’t know about you, but the next time I put my kettle on or prepare my French press, this verse is going to come to mind.

And God, I don’t mind if it does as long as You help it to steep deep in this willing vessel, until it releases the fragrance You delight in most – a trusting faith.
