REST.
Why is regular rest so important for each of us? (And I am meaning more than just a good night’s sleep with this question.)
I have been pondering this very question for years, and came to understand that as ones who have been made in His image, looking to God to see what He thinks of rest is the logical way to find my answers.
When God finished creating the world with Adam and Eve, He rested from His work on the 7th day, and blessed it as a Sabbath, day to rest (Genesis 2:2, Exodus 20:8-9). Paul reminds us of this in Hebrews 4:9-11.
When Jesus was ministering to the crowds as a travelling rabbi, He often went off on His own to rest and spend time alone with His Father (Luke 5:16), as He recommended His disciples do as well (Mark 6:31),
Jesus invited all who were weary and burdened to come to God to find rest, rest for their very souls (Matthew 11:28), echoing Exodus 33:14 that in His Presence we will find rest.
So if God Himself wrapped in flesh and bone made regular rest a priority in His life here on earth, then I need to follow His lead and do the same.
This requires me to make the necessary changes so I have Sabbath rest every week.
I am very grateful that I have His help as I begin to make space for more Sabbath rest, for I know how much I am in need of it!
